Why the Hype?

On September 10th 2009, a new fantasy-drama TV series aired for the first time, due to make a huge hit in the years to come and revolutionising teen drama as #1. The Vampire Diaries, originally a favourite novel written by L.J Smith, has had it's plot expanded, developed and enhanced in the TV series to be recreated into the show that's known for its consistently suspense filled storyline right from the very first episode. Winning 7 Teen Choice Awards in 2010 and 12 in 2011, with a total of four nominations at the 2012 People's Choice Awards, Nina Dobrev won the title of Best Drama Actress with one of the other nominations for 'apparently' good looks being awarded to a guy called Nathan Fillion over Ian Somerhalder, but they obviously need an eye checkup.

If you've already seen the show you are probably one of millions with a TVD addiction and if you haven't, then you could be missing out on one of TV's greatest achievements and your life is at stake of missing out on all of the hype. If you don't know what all of the hype is about then keep reading....

I know what some of you may be thinking, that "oh no, it's another vampire series, probably a take on from Twilight with a depressed looking couple who can't control themselves, living in a depressed town where nothing much ever happens and acting all depressed." If anything is a take on it's Twilight, the amateur version of The Vampire Diaries which was written decades before. I'm not a Twilight hater though. I hate the first one, the third one and the one that hasn't come out yet (I know I haven't seen it yet but I know I'll hate it too), but I do like that New Moon one so I don't think hating it counts if I at least like one. The last time and first time I saw a Twilight movie at the cinema was when I went to see Breaking dawn Part 1. It didn't have the most captivating hype I must say, otherwise me and my friends would've probably walked into the right movie the first time around. Instead we ended up  being three out of five people watching some sort of romance/action. About eight minutes in we realised our mistake which just goes to show how much we hardly expected instant suspense from the movie and as if getting it wrong once isn't bad enough, we never thought to check our tickets the second time round. At least we got the movie right the second time but the cinema number was wrong as we headed out once again after watching at least three minutes before the credits rolled. So we dawdled into the right breaking Breaking Dawn screening third time round but had it been The Vampire Diaries, we would have checked our tickets twice and still be buzzing once the movie had ended.

Each episode gives you a certain buzz that makes you want more until you are forced to wait until the next air date. Why so gripping? Here's why us TVD fans are hooked. The Vampire Diaries follows the mysterious events and history of a town called Mystic Falls through the life of 17 year old Elena Gilbert. A long standing history lies rooted in Mystic Falls where Founding Families stand against the vampires who claim their ground as original inhabitants. When new student Stefan Salvatore comes to town, Elena and her friends Caroline and Bonnie, who has a mystery of her own, find themselves entwined in remnants of Mystic Fall's past. Stefan and Elena who lives with her 15 year old brother Jeremy and her Aunt Jenna, become closer than friends but when Stefan has a run in with his feuding brother Damon, how will he protect Elena from a secret about the link between herself and his past lover?

The hype in Season 1 is about the tie between both lover, ex lover, two feuding brothers and literally the power of friends. If you haven't already seen it you must watch it and find out for yourself!
